The main event didn’t last as long as many people had though it would, ending with only 1 second left in the very first round;  Aldo scoring the knockout via vicious knee strike.

I was really impressed with Jose Aldo’s takedown defense and reactive counter attacks. He was very fun to watch. I think if someone is going to beat him they’ve got to have fast hard hitting hands and need to get their attacks off first. As long as Aldo has the advantage in striking over his opponent he is going to be very hard to takedown regardless of the calibre of wrestler he’s up against.

Reading that Machida may have won the first round of the main event fight between him and John Jones had me wondering if he might actually pull of a win. About thirty minutes after that I read that Jones has won the fight via choke with 34 seconds left in the 2nd round. I had thought that Jones would win but was excited to see that Machida made it a pretty good scrap.

After blasting out some info about a pick’em contest, the responses came in quickly. The closest one was actually closer to the actual time of victory than any other JJ MMA pick’em contest guess has ever been. It was only 4 seconds off!

But…that wasn’t the fight everyone had placed their predictions on for the “MMA QuickStart” UFC 139 Pick’em via twitter, facebook and my blog page. I’m glad it wasn’t because no one would have won the prize because of the fight ending in decision.

Both Nick and BJ have great ground skill and solid striking ability which makes their match-up very interesting.

I have a feeling that this fight will play out mostly on the feet although I’d like to see them mix it up on the ground as well.

I’m finding it hard to pick a winner although my gut tells me that Diaz will win via strikes at some point in the fight.

When I watched their last bout I had hoped Edgar would have gotten the decision after doing what seemed impossible in coming back from being rocked multiple times early in the fight. Instead it was a draw and now we lucky fans get to see it all happen over again.

In the main event Jake Shields is facing Jake Ellenberger in a fight that could be end up being pretty exciting. I`m definitely hoping for some nice grappling exchanges throughout the fight since Shields last fight –vs. GSP– was all striking with zero groundwork.

Canadian Fighter and great guy Jason MacDonald battles Allan Belcher in what could be another good scrap. I`ll be cheering for Jason to come out with the win.

The fact that Ultimate Fighter“ show winner Johnathon Brookins is on the card makes it even more interesting.
