The Bravado BJJ Open 2009
ByI spent the entire day yesterday at the Bravado BJJ Open, refereeing and coaching my students as they battled it out on the mats.
The white belts competed first followed by the blues, purples and browns although as the belt rank level increased the amount of competitors in each division decreased substantially. Mainly because is takes a long time to reach the brown and black belt levels in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu . Two belt ranks that few people achieve. Another factor to consider is that many of Ontario’s top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are fighting in MMA or busy running their martial arts schools.
It’s very promising to see the huge group of white and blue belts that are competing on a regular basis at this and other events. It’s these athletes that will feed the higher rank divisions in the near future.
With solid refereeing, great organization and some very exciting matches the Bravado BJJ Open was a excellent event. Congrats to Tony I. and the Bravado crew for a job well done.
